Book Club: The Four Agreements

In June and July we focused on the Seven Spiritual Law of Success and what a journey that was!  “Great book made even better with a fantastic group of women.” Deniece

For August we will explore The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.  The book focuses on freedom from self-limiting beliefs.

The first and most important of The Four Agreements is to be impeccable with your word. In a time when we’re challenging individual biases and collective possibilities and responsibilities - how we use our words matters. When we’re impeccable, we’re not going to tell ourselves ‘we’re too old, not good enough or that we can’t make a difference’.  “We re-create reality with the word because the word is what we use to create everything that we know.

If you’re using the word to create a story with self-judgment and self-rejection, then you’re using the word against yourself, and you’re not being impeccable.  Being impeccable with your word really means never use the power of the word against yourself. When you’re impeccable with your word, you never betray yourself. You never use the word to gossip about yourself or to spread emotional poison by gossiping about other people”

Join us as we take a deeper look into these four agreements while reflecting on applicability to our own lives.  We start on Monday, August 10th at 7pm ET and discuss one agreement each week until we finish the book on the last Monday evening in August.

This is a safe space to reflect on our experiences and continue creating who we want to be.  Community, content, conversation.

Developing and Sustaining a Self-Care Practice - with Be Here Now Yoga DC

Do you think about self care but somehow don’t get around to doing it?

Are you uncertain of what self care could look like in your life?

How can you manage self care when trauma is a routine part of your personal or professional life? (e.g., #metoo, activism, discrimination, 24-hour news cycle, challenging domestic environments)

“No matter how indulgent or fancy the term may sound, self care is crucial for our physical, emotional and mental well-being.” Self care is about: allowing yourself to exhale, to slow down for a moment, to regain a sense of calm and presence - giving yourself time to regroup and recharge.

When you’ve developed and are implementing self-care routines, you’re more aware of what you are feeling. You are better able to honor your needs, manage your emotions, and be your own advocate. You ask for and accept help from others when you need it.

For some people, coming to my self-care workshop is their first intentional self-care step in a long time. Others attend because they need support to find their way back to what works for them and guidance for committing to it. I help participants identify:

  • What self care means for them.

  • What’s standing in their way of having the self care they want.

  • How to manage challenges that arise as they work to implement a self-care practice.

  • How to make self care sustainable for them.

This is a not a movement class. Be comfortable and bring a journal/ notebook and pen.

Saying Goodbye to Self-Defeating Narratives

Saying Goodbye to Self-Defeating Narratives

What are Narratives?  In the self-help/psychology world, narratives are the words, sentences, phrases that we hear over and over in our mind. We hear them so often that we start to identify with them - believe that these words are actually our thoughts and our truths!  They are not.

Self-Defeating Narratives are the lies that keep us stuck

Join us in a discussion to learn how to dismantle these narratives for good.

"Becoming" Together - A Group Coaching Conversation for Women of Color

Following the National 2019 Women's March, the launch of Michelle Obama's best-selling book "Becoming", and the most diverse mid-term election results ever, we invite you to be a part of a group coaching conversation for women of color, created intentionally for reflection, connection, and an honest discussion about ways to face our challenges at work, at home, and in our communities.

Like Michelle, have you: ever felt “stuck” in your career or otherwise? ever sacrificed your career for your partner's? allowed your self-care to lapse?

Whatever you are facing, chances are you aren’t the first or only one. Michelle Obama gave us a wonderful launchpad in "Becoming". Her words are a beacon for us to gather around and harness our shared wisdom. Through a facilitated conversation by certified life coach Patrice Ford Lyn, let’s identify where we are stuck and ways to move forward in 2019.

Let's support each other in our own Becoming.

Catapult | Community | Conversations - Building Community

We live in the most technologically connected age in the history of civilization, yet rates of loneliness have doubled since the 1980s - more than 40 percent of American adults say they feel lonely.

Building community can be challenging but it is critical. Experience and research tell us that “loneliness kills – it places our bodies in a chronic stress state and increases inflammation and is a more significant health factor than obesity, smoking, exercise, or nutrition.

“Social connections are really good for us, -  people who are more socially connected to family, friends, community, are happier, physically healthier, and live longer than people who are less well-connected.”   “Taking care of your body is important, but tending to your relationships is a form of self-care too.

Join this webinar to learn more about creating a strategy for developing community that feels right for you.

Building Community and Connection - DC Group Coaching Series

Building community can be challenging – especially in a city as transient and political as DC. But both experience and research tell us that “social connections are really good for us, and that loneliness kills. It turns out that people who are more socially connected to family, to friends, to community, are happier, they’re physically healthier, and they live longer than people who are less well connected.” … “And we know that you can be lonely in a crowd and you can be lonely in a marriage, so it’s not just the number of friends you have, and it’s not whether or not you’re in a committed relationship, but it’s the quality of your close relationships that matter.”- Robert Waldinger, Director of the Harvard Study of Adult Development.

You may be in service organizations, on work committees, active in parent-teacher organizations or invited to more parties than you can attend, however, if you can’t name someone you would feel comfortable calling in the midst of anxiety or feelings of loneliness then you may be less socially connected than you think and lacking intimacy in your relationships.

This series will explore where community is or isn’t present in our lives, how positive connection and community looks and feels to each of us, and steps for creating, maintaining and growing the communities we want.

Sessions held at Yoga District (1910 14th St NW location) consecutive Mondays: July 30th, August 6th, August 13th, and August 20th
